Amanda grew up in a small town in West Virginia where her love of nature and creativity was cultivated by her parents. She developed a deep faith in the body’s innate wisdom to heal, which led her to study naturopathic medicine and midwifery. Her experiences in life, travel, and learning have shown her the value of working with families from the very beginning and as they continue to grow.
She studied Biology at James Madison University in Virginia with a focus on pre-medicine, zoology, and research. While attending JMU, she fell deeply in love with the study of the human body. and moved to Portland in 2000 to specialize in Naturopathic Medicine and midwifery at the oldest accredited school of Naturopathy, the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). While at NUNM, she completed a 2-year internship in natural childbirth, with an emphasis on paediatrics and women’s health.
She is excited to embrace the unique community and natural beauty of Tairawhiti. She loves spending time with her family - husband Michael, their daughter, Iris and their son, Harry. She can't wait to explore nature here, looks forward to camping and hiking on the East Cape. She is a keen trail runner and enthusiastic gardener.
