Leigh trained in Medicine in the UK and qualified in 1996, she then trained in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care before choosing to specialise in Anaesthesia. After a further 8 years of training in Anaesthesia and a further 8 years as Consultant at Salford Royal Hospital she moved to New Zealand with her husband and two daughters. Previously she was a practicing Consultant in Anaesthesia and used to be Head of Department of Anaesthesia at Gisborne Hospital.
Leigh also gained a post-graduate research degree that investigated how inflammation damages our bodies at a cellular level, the root-cause of most diseases. Her knowledge of anaesthesia gives her a high level understanding of conventional medicine and combined with her research and knowledge of Functional Medicine this gives her a unique insight into the workings of the human body.
She has a particular interest in chronic pain, cognitive decline, cardiometabolic disease and autoimmunity. She also has an interest in children’s health particularly in resolving Autism Spectrum disorders.
