About GAWAIN

Gawain did his Medical Training and completed his primary medical degree from Bloemfontein South Africa in 2000. He did his 1st year Medical Internship in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 2001.

His 2nd year Medical Internship was done at Provincial Hospital in Port Alfred, South Africa in 2002. The next year, while still in Port Alfred, he worked as a General Practitioner in an Urgent Care/ Emergency medicine practice; also doing emergency on call for the Hospital.

Gawain, his wife and then one-year old daughter moved to New Zealand in 2003. He served in the District Hospital Emergency Department in Gisborne from October 2003 till November 2021.During that time Gawain acquired:

• a Post Graduate Diploma in Community Emergency Medicine from Auckland University 2009;
• Fellowship from Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care 2013;
• Post Graduate Diploma Aeromedical Retrieval and Transport from Otago University 2015;
• Royal Flying Doctor Service- Specialised Training in Aeromedical Retrieval (STAR) Program- Essential Aspects of Aeromedical Retrieval Course- October 2016;
• Emergency Trauma Management Course- November 2019

Gawain started his Training in Functional Medicine in 2022—Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice. He then joined the team at Functional Again Gisborne from June/July 2022. He transitioned into Functional Medicine to assist the growing number of patients suffering from chronic and complex medical problems, including long Covid. 

Combining root cause medicine with dietary improvements, lifestyle modification, natural supplementation with proven western medicine methodology and testing offers a unique and improved approach to healthcare in the community.

He is still happily married-- now a father of 3. He is an avid collector of leather satchels and knives, a reluctant gardener and a licensed ham radio operator. He reads adventure fiction novels. Gawain is undertaking his own personal health journey – trying to overcome the lure of the unhealthy and inflammatory modern diet!
