Why medical-grade infra-red sauna?

At Functional Again, we feel it is essential to provide the safest and most effective form of sauna to assist our patients with their detoxification process.

Our Jacuzzi sauna was chosen because it is constructed using completely non-toxic materials - to suit even the most chemically sensitive individuals. Made from medical-grade Western red Canadian Cedar, the feel and smell of the cabin is untainted by chemicals.

The True Wave II infrared heaters are the only carbon based infrared heaters with virtually no EMF emissions. The 360 degree sauna surrounds your body in healing infrared which targets your core rather than heating the cabin air. This maximises the tissue penetration and detoxificant effects.

 Toxins, whether they are heavy metals or organic toxins, get locked away in the fat stores of the body. This is a protective mechanism by the body to minimise exposure of important processes which maintain health. In order for us to release and remove these toxins, the body needs to break down the fat. Infra-red helps the body release and remove toxins in a two step process:

  1. It penetrates the skin and deeper tissues, stimulating the mitochondria (the battery packs of the cells) to metabolise fat and in the process, this releases toxins.
  2. By heating the body the infra-red encourages the body to sweat which is a really efficient way of moving the released toxins out of the body.

 You will be provided with clean towels for your comfort and to protect the interior of the cabin. Please ensure that you sit on a towel and place a towel on the floor to minimise sweat coming into contact with the wood. Please do not use oils or lotions. Simply wipe away sweat as you perspire with a third towel. This encourages further sweating and a more effective treatment.

  

We provide showering facilities within the sauna suite. We encourage you to take a brief shower before using the sauna cabin and after your session, simply rinse off the sweat but do not use lotions or oils as these can cause any remaining toxins to be reabsorbed.

Your detoxification will be more effective if you are not trying to digest food. so avoid food for 1 hour before your session. As your body heats up, you will lose fluid in the process of sweating and it is important to drink water during your treatment. Filtered water is provided or you are welcome to bring your own. 

Losing salts in sweat is also natural so replacing electrolytes can be useful especially if taken in an isotonic form. Please discuss different options with us.

Further tips on maximising the value of your sauna treatment:

  • Listen to an audiobook or your favourite calming music by linking your device to bluetooth before entering.
  • Towel off frequently to encourage further sweating.
  • Open the roof vent to allow in fresh air if needed.
  • Choose your preferred colour of light therapy inside the cabin.
